BI (XML) Publisher Resources

BI Publisher, formerly known as XML publisher is being used more and more for reporting purposes. Thank god!! We don't have to use Oracle Reports any more..

Its good to have resources handy when you need to findout something or need help resolving issues. Below are some resources from Oracle, regarding BI (XML) publisher.

Demos/Samples
If you install BI Publisher desktop edition, you will fine some demos under "demos" directory and some sample templates can be found under "samples" directory.

Install OBIEE on Windows

This post provides high level insturctions on how to install OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 on Windows XP, Vista & Windows 7.

  1. Download OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 from Oracle download site and unzip the software to temporary older. Go to http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101320bi.html for download

  2. Make sure that you have JDK 1.5 or higher installed on your machine, otherwise download latest JDK version from Sun website and install it.

  3. If you are installing this on Windows 7, change the compatability mode of setup.exe to Windows Vista.

  4. Make sure you have about 2-3G space left on the disk prior to starting the installation.

  5. Start the installer and pick the basic installation type and provide the location for OBIEE.

  6. Choose complete installation

  7. Provide the JDK location and oc4j administrator password


  8. Provide local administrator account/password information. You can leave default startup values for services or set them to manual, if you want to start them manually after bootup.



  9. Pick Error message language


  10. Go through next few clicks to verify the installation information and complete the installation.


  11. It takes around 30-40 minutes to complete the installation once it starts.

  12. That's it. Pretty simple to install OBIEE on Windows. Make sure to start the services after the bootup, if you set the startup type to manual.
